You know, growing up my - you know, I came from Compton, Calif., and, you know, it was a place where a lot of people did come out when a lot of people stayed. So I've been able to see the top and the bottom of life, and I think that balances you if you allow it to and if you remember where you came from.
The season is very long. It's pretty challenging to have to play year after year, for 10 months a year, for a human -- not a machine. You just have to watch out for yourself.
Everybody's got their problems. The important thing is not to complain about it.
The thing that's most important in getting you in the best mindest is just being prepared - having a great practice, and knowing that no matter what knowing you're going to go in with confidence. You need to have that confidence to power through.
I just tried to stay positive and not float away mentally, ... I'm at the end of the line, I've arrived in the finals. It's good for me. Got to see what's left tomorrow. And even if there's nothing left like today, I'll still find something. I just wanted to win.
And it was quite hot so there were a lot of factors.
But just to have Maria and myself here was a really special thing.
Life is good, ... I've been able to see the other side of life a little more, but I'm really eager to get back and I'm really eager to be traveling and doing my thing that I'm used to doing.
I couldn't get it right today. But in general, I am playing really well. It's just like, ?Wow, it was the wrong time to hit wrong.
At the same time, ... I feel like I have enough experience to get here and really know what it takes every day and every match, no matter what someone brings to me.
She doesn't know that I have a food taster.
I just felt like under normal circumstances I really felt like I would have been able to win that match,
You never know what life is going to throw at you and each and every day I just expect the sun to come up, that's all, these days.
It doesn't matter how Serena is playing because her competitive spirit is so high, you have to go to the ends of the Earth to beat her.
