There's a sense of urgency to start getting wins. We get this win, it gives us more confidence going into the UTEP game and to continue racking them up.
The chain of cultural memory has broken down. I get kids in my class whose mothers and fathers didn't have a clue about cooking, and they're lost. There's a gap and it's just part of the culture.
A guy like that, you've just got to come out and out-tough him. You just have to play more physical and take him out of his game.
You will be able to see the first week when they come back out there, who has worked harder over the summer. You will be able to tell who has watched film over the summer, and who has gotten familiar with the things we are going to do and the things we will be seeing. Maybe one will step out, maybe both will step out. You like the competition. The competition is great. Right now they are battling real good.
It's a challenge to get people to play us here, so we'll pack our bags and go.
It's great to start 1-0 in Conference USA. Now we need a big road win.
I didn't care if I scored a career high or no points at all. All I wanted was the win. Now I'm excited to go to the conference tournament and find out who we have to play.
Everybody's confident. We've got a little bit of swagger even though we've lost our last two.
It's a new chance, a new season. We want to go up there and make some noise.
They have done a good job. (Coleman) and I have talked about tweaking the defense here and there, and the guys we have hired have been involved. They have done a remarkable job with the little time they have had together.
We had a problem in stopping them. They only punted one time. It was tough on us. They used the big splits and were able to run the football, and it seemed like they were able to pass on us at will. They have a good football team with a nice offensive line. They have an outstanding quarterback and have some good receivers. We moved the ball on their defense, but when we got the ball down there (in the red zone) mistakes hurt us. We had interceptions and penalties. Those are the things that happen in the first game. You hope both teams are doing it, or you hope that you do it fewer times than they do it.
Although we have a lot of newcomers, they were able to gain some experience with some playing time last season. We're looking for them to step up for us this season.
