fearless glorious man obtain praises rest sings state
That man is happy, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. All the rest of the world is enticed by Maya; they do not obtain the state of fearless dignity.
body discover eat
Eat just enough to keep the body trim; use the body to discover this Reality, namely, God.
cannot profit true union
O Nanak, this Union cannot be broken; the true profit is obtained.
against develop love men narrow open path power prejudices relish restricted sail
HAVING an open heart, do not relish the narrow path of restricted love; love all, do not develop prejudices against men in power or position. They too are our kith and kin. We all sail together.
air fixed jealousy spirit thy
Yon fluttering little spirit that has been fixed into thy heart, from it the jealousy do I remove, as air from a water-skin.
alone condition
You are All-powerful; there is no other than You. You alone know Your condition and extent.
chance divine path
In the Divine Path, there is no chance of failure; it is the Path of Love.

Man is, they say, a monkey that has lost its tail; well, he must lose many more attributes of the monkey before he is entitled to call himself Man. He must dedicate his thought, word and deed to God and surrender to His Will. Then only is this animal entitled to become a Man in whom the Divine is enshrined.
against clap close jaw press teeth thy tongue
I clap thy teeth upon thy teeth, and also thy jaw upon thy jaw; I press thy tongue against thy tongue, and close up, O serpent, thy mouth.
against animals fear forest frighten shout start thus wild
As the wild animals of the forest start in fear from man, thus do thou, O drum, shout against the enemies, frighten them away, and bewilder their minds!
fear himself improves lessons past takes
One, who takes lessons from his past and improves on himself need not fear the future.
against battles hates hostile mind subject thou towards
Him that hates us, O earth, him that battles against us, him that is hostile towards us with his mind and his weapons, do thou subject to us, anticipating (our wish) by deed!
act becomes beings full future human past path potential present righteous tread
Human beings should tread on the righteous path and act in such a way that his past is unblemished, present full of potential and future becomes secured.
both evil free good gracious men paths people thy tracks
Thy many paths upon which people go, thy tracks for chariots and wagons to advance, upon which both good and evil men proceed, this road, free from enemies,and free from thieves, may we gain, with what is auspicious (on thee) be gracious to us!
