blazing fire karma self-knowledge wood
As the blazing fire reduces wood to ashes, similarly, the fire of Self-knowledge reduces all Karma to ashes.
danger die duty however lacking thine though
It is better to do thine own duty, however lacking in merit, than to do that of another, even though efficiently. It is better to die doing one's own duty, for to do the duty of another is fraught with danger.
according act beings follow value wise
All beings follow their nature. Even the wise act according to their own nature. What, then, is the value of sense restraint?
among knowledge logic supreme
Among the knowledge I am knowledge of the supreme Self. I am logic of the logician.
among feminine nouns
Among the feminine nouns I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intellect, resolve, and forgiveness.
bow creatures mentally practice
Practice to look upon all creatures as Myself in thought, word, and deed; and mentally bow down to them.
afflicted becomes calm feelings fit pain steady
Because the calm person, who is not afflicted by these feelings and is steady in pain and pleasure, becomes fit for immortality, O Arjuna.
birth dies grieve takes
If you think that this (body) takes birth and dies perpetually, even then, O Arjuna, you should not grieve like this.
action attached detached difficult forbidden nature true
The true nature of action is very difficult to understand. Therefore, one should know the nature of attached action, the nature of detached action, and also the nature of forbidden action.
authority duty following perform scripture
Let the scripture be your authority in determining what should be done and what should not be done. You should perform your duty following the scriptural injunction.
desire neither nor pleasure victory
I desire neither victory nor pleasure nor kingdom, O Krishna. What is the use of the kingdom, or enjoyment, or even life, O Krishna?
calls ignorance light night sage
The sage awakes to light in the night of all creatures. That which the world calls day is the night of ignorance to the wise.
bewildered knowing yoga yogi
Knowing these two paths, O Arjuna, a yogi is not bewildered at all. Therefore, O Arjuna, be steadfast in yoga (of meditation) at all times.
elsewhere happiness neither nor store
Neither in this world nor elsewhere is there any happiness in store for him who always doubts.
