ability dimensions hitter opportunity outfield power timing wonderful
As a GM, to get a switch-hitter who's a leadoff hitter with a lot of dimensions -- power, speed, the ability to play the outfield the way he does -- is a godsend to the organization. The opportunity was great, the timing was wonderful and he's very deserving.
boost might next plays possible remains snapshot team whether year
It would give a boost to the team and give a snapshot of what might be possible next year. Whether he plays this year or how much remains to be seen.
ability affect against chance expect next provide rest season snapshot team win
I expect we'll have a better chance to win games, especially against right-handers. He has the ability to affect the team and provide a snapshot for the rest of the season and next year.
good happen position
should have been in this position long before this. In the end, good things happen to good people.
closer game guy knee next presented sees until
You've got to get this guy closer to game action, fast-twitch action. Anything he's doing right now is under quote-unquote control. It's not as if he's being presented into the game. Until he does that and Dr. Yocum sees how the knee responds, you can't go to the next step.
guys trying
I'm trying to make these guys incrementally better.
close dinners dodger flip guys hard hated levity pasta ruin sure worked
Hopefully, it won't ruin a friendship. Obviously, he's in hated Dodger blue. I'm sure he'll be having a lot of pasta dinners with Tommy (Lasorda). Levity aside, it is an interesting flip of fate. You guys know how close we are personally, how hard we worked professionally.
comment goes months three
I'm not going to comment on what goes on in the clubhouse, ... Old news, too. It was three months ago.
blame choice obviously starts turn
I'm embarrassed we had to do it, ... The blame starts with me. We made choices, and they obviously didn't turn out.
bases beyond played pleasantly run saw
From what I saw today, I'm beyond pleasantly surprised. He's done a lot of work, you can tell. He's strong. Having said that, he hasn't run the bases yet or played the outfield.
god
Only God and he know how much he's going to play. And the manager.
agents bogged dog draft free larger last lose pony possible quite seemingly slower teams until waiting whether
It's quite possible it could be a dog and pony show until after Dec. 7. It's seemingly going slower than I ever could have expected. ... I'm not sure, but my inclination the last day or so is teams are bogged down waiting until Dec. 7 whether for their own free agents or so they don't lose draft picks. Dec. 7 looms larger than other years.
barry fact fortified obvious reason whatever
It's obvious we have to be more fortified if in fact for whatever reason Barry and/or Mo (Alou) don't play 120-plus games,
buried division dug happens hurt learned lesson saw survive
The lesson learned is you're not going to survive a 2-15 stretch. When that happens early, you've really dug yourself a hole. I can't say I saw it coming, and it buried us. And what we did out of the division really hurt us.
