I think Brian learned a valuable lesson last week. He was frustrated and I told him, 'They're going to make us beat them by throwing the football, so you need to take that as a compliment.' That doesn't mean you surrender. You keep playing because it's going to be a game where you earn every one of your yards. Games like this are games of persistence, games of trusting yourself, and knowing it's not going to look pretty all the time, but you have to keep banging away.
My sister and I would always be playing softball and I appreciate everything I have learned from her. And my brother and I would always be playing each other on the basketball court. I could beat him until he grew too tall for me to guard.
The experience that we have just playing in the last two games is probably going to help us out a lot. And the game plan Coach Carroll prepares is going to be awesome.
I don't feel like we have this big huge advantage at home. I feel a little more distracted at home for whatever reason. Maybe we've gotten used to playing on the road. The biggest difference, for me is that I'm not going to have a very long drive home after the game.
We felt Brandon would have some opportunities in this game. He needed to take advantage of them and he did. He's been playing at a high level and he's been a tremendous spark in every football game we've played.
We are trying to improve as individuals and as a team. We have had some 5-10 minute spurts where we have been playing well, but we have not been able to string them together. With our style of play, we want to hold on to the ball longer. We have been trying to increase our soccer knowledge, where we can learn what we need to do to make the adjustments on the field.
Maybe it was the Penn State game - and he did it playing tailback,
As long as Andy is playing well and we're playing offensively as well as we've played the past two weeks, it will be tough to make the change.
I'm playing very well in practice, but the first match of the ranking season is massive,
Everybody's playing their role and playing as a team. It's just clicking at the right time.
Everybody's playing at the same pace right now. We're looking for each other and not complaining about who's getting the ball. Everybody's filling their role.
If, in fact, Christen is not playing this week, then everybody is going to have to step it up a notch and I know they'll do that. Last week we had a terrible week of practice and I think that was shown on (last Friday against Central Crossing, which hadn't scored since the second quarter of its opener and dropped to 0-4). Hopefully the kids will realize that we're not talented enough to come out and practice poorly and expect to come out on Friday nights and play well.
I thought they won a lot of individual battles in the first half. They set the tone and tempo. The second half we did a better job of stepping up in some of the individual battles.
I think we've become adept at it. It has become our signature play.
