blind forgotten gathers ignorant lord meditate says third watch
He has forgotten the Creator, his Lord and Master, and he does not meditate on Him, even for an instant. Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, the blind and ignorant person gathers poison.
cares giver great watches
Day after day, He cares for His beings; the Great Giver watches over all.
babble bestows body death deep enters fourth night passes second soul watch worthless
The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep. In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived. The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind.
behold gathered himself lord merciful seated watch wrestling
All have gathered to watch the wrestling match, and the Merciful Lord Himself is seated to behold it.
deep god watches within
My God sits deep within the self; He watches over us.
exalted shall sin walk ways
O Nanak, those who do not walk in the ways of sin, shall be exalted in the world hereafter.
deceive leaders teach
And yet, they go out to teach others. They are deceived, and they deceive their companions. O Nanak, such are the leaders of men.
glorious sings tongue
Praiseworthy is the tongue which sings the Lord's Glorious Praises.
crumble fickle fish fly held mind shall
In one way, the fickle fish of the mind will be held steady; the swan-soul shall not fly away, and the body-wall will not crumble
shall true
O Nanak, through the Guru's Teachings, you shall be saved, contemplating the True Name.
leave shall stay
one does not even know how long you will stay here; you have no hint of when you shall leave
lord meets name whom
That person, with whom the Lord is pleased, meets with the Guru, and meditates on the Name of the Lord.
