challenge finish herself shot slowly ten top
(James) is slowly distinguishing herself in the shot put. I think she could challenge for a top finish at the Big Ten Championships.
ability athletes bach beating certain contribute distance finals focus freshmen jumping knock lauren people position running steven ten thompson younger
I look for our freshmen to contribute a lot in the relays. We also need them to get into the finals in their respective events, to knock other people out of position to score. Some of the younger athletes, like Lauren Scott , Steven Bach and Terrell Thompson , have the ability to do that. At the Big Ten meet, I tell all of our athletes to focus on beating bodies, not on jumping a certain distance or running a certain time. If you focus on beating people, those things will come.
finished last returns second ten
IU returns their whole team. They finished second in the Big Ten last season, so they will be good.
athletes chance few final fine low meet next offer opportunity quite ready rested ten tune ups
Quite a few of our athletes will be off this weekend, getting rested and ready for next weekend's Big Ten meets. This meet should be pretty low key, but it will offer us a chance for final preparations and tune ups for Big Tens. Those athletes who need to rest will rest and those who need fine tuning will have an opportunity to do that as well.
forget race sneaks tendency
Sometimes when you get two thoroughbreds like that, they have a tendency to race each other and forget about everyone else. And then someone sneaks in and wins.
believe believing compete cross few level moved ten
They are really believing that they can compete at the Big Ten level and be successful. Especially after what they did in cross country; they moved up a few spots.
challenge competition good last meet stand team ten test waters
This meet will give us a good look-see at where we stand in the Big Ten competition. We will be able to test the waters and challenge our team a little more than we did last weekend.
athletes awakening capable compete david defend four goal great high hope improve john major national onto people points pole score scoring side solid trying vault year
Our goal on the men's side is to be where we were a year ago, if not better, and for Rickey and John to improve their qualifying marks, and for others, like David Rae , to make it onto the national lists. Rickey is going in trying to defend his title. If he is able to do that, it will get us rolling. We also hope to score well in the pole vault because we have four solid athletes in it. David Rae is capable of scoring us some major points in the 3,000. We are a young team, but we have a lot of people capable of doing great things. Hopefully, Big Tens will be an awakening for them to compete at a high level.
help last lost points replace throwing
We've lost a lot of throwing points from last year's team, but our vaulting will help replace some of those scores.
chance establish expect finish men team top
Our team has a chance to really establish the Purdue program. I expect our men to finish in the top three.
looking team training year
Our training as a team is on pace. We are looking better than we did a year ago.
balanced meet women
Our women should be pretty competitive. It should be a pretty balanced meet for us and we should do well in the scoring.
additional faster felt gotten help hurdles problems running scoring
(Pinkney) has had hamstring problems in the past, but he's gotten over that this year. I felt that running the 100 would help him run faster in the hurdles and we will need the additional scoring in the Big Tens.
qualified team
I still want to get (sophomore) Leah Kincaid regionally qualified in the long jump, and I would like to get the (400-meter relay) team regionally qualified.
