change coming johnny knows pressure
Coming from Boston, one thing you know about Johnny is that he's not going to be intimidated in New York. He knows what pressure is and he's not going to let it change him.
batting encouraged encouragement excited few friend good great guy hitter include johnny last natural next places preferred presence return sign spoke strongly teammate week whose year
Johnny and I spoke a few times over the last week and I strongly encouraged him to sign with the Yankees. It is good to know that our lineup next year will include a natural leadoff hitter whose presence allows Jeter and A-Rod to return to their preferred places in the batting order. Johnny is a good friend and a great guy to have in the clubhouse. I am very excited about having him as a teammate again.
course homer johnny runs score scratch sit wait win
Over the course of the season, you're not going to score 10 runs every night. You need to win the 2-1 games, too, and we're not going to have to sit back and wait for a big homer to win a game. We can scratch and claw with Johnny and Derek up top, which is important.
enjoy everybody fun great hair johnny sees
Everybody sees Johnny Damon for long hair and the beard, but he's a great, great teammate. He's fun to play with. He'll be fun for this team. I think they'll really enjoy having Johnny around.
moved
It's over and done with, and I've moved on,
doubt far takes
He's always been our guy. We're going to go as far as he takes us, no doubt about it.
grinding hard work
It's been a lot of hard work and a lot of grinding it out.
head hit knew last since spring strung training work year
I was all over the place then. I had been hit (by a pitch) in the head and had been doing so much work since spring training to try and make up for last year that I was just strung out. But I knew it would change.
seen
I have nothing to say. I haven't seen it.
easily great huge team turned
It was huge for us. They've got a great team over there, and we could have easily turned this thing into a disaster.
drag father pathetic tried
I think it's pretty pathetic that they tried to drag my father into it.
involving
You couldn't have done that without involving me?
anytime guy missing piece team throws
He's a big part of this team offensively. Every guy in this lineup is an All-Star, and anytime you're missing that big a piece of the puzzle, especially the way we've kind of got it going offensively, it kind of throws you off a little bit.
books-and-reading forward gone handled last year
I have no idea what's in the book. I handled it last year and I've gone forward from that.
