I never got close enough to his bumper to find out how good he was. . . . He knows how to get around this place good. He was smooth and fast and made some great moves.
There was a lot of stuff going on. We avoided most of it, and then unfortunately there toward the end I couldn't avoid Mike Bliss . We had to fix the right front fender. We had a great car. We really did. We never really got to show it. We got it really good the second half of the race, and the whole time we were playing catch-up.
By having those no-bump zones or whatever we want to call them, I think we saw a heck of a lot less crashes, big crashes, than what we could have seen. I think the racing was still good out there, but it was so much calmer.
He's tough here, there's no doubt about it. When I look at guys that run good here, I put him as one of the top guys.
It was a very rewarding race and gratifying. I could get up to third or fourth but couldn't make those passes to get the rest of the way. Once we did get up front, the car was flying. To be able to drive from 15th all the way to third or fourth, I knew we had a good one. Once we got out front, we were awesome. I knew we were in great shape.
That's just good TV. Don't listen to that. When you're inside the car, you've got no idea if you caught the wind or not.
Our performances haven't been as bad as our finishes. We've had several races where we were completely off on our setup, but we've had numerous situations where we ran strong during the event but didn't have the good results to show for it.
The way the championship points are structured, winning is not the most important thing. It pays the most points, but a top-five these days is almost as good as a win.
It was a hell of a night. It's just one of those nights. You'll have those good nights when things will happen. We thought we had it at one time. I don't know if we just got a bad set of tires, over-adjusted or what. We were really looking good and then things just went backwards. We struggled back and forth all night.
Once I get focused on something that's the only thing I focus on. That can be good or bad in life, but in racing, it's typically pretty good.
This is definitely the smoothest that I've ever seen this place. I'm still not sure what the race is going to be like, but I think it's going to be good because the track is just really, really fast right now.
I'm still nervous about the championship. The way our season's gone, no matter how good we're running you don't know what's going to happen. This was a race we needed to put together. And I'm glad it happened here at Bristol.
I thought we might have had something for him. The car just stuck so good through (Turns) One and Two. I thought I was going to get a run on Tony down the back straightaway, but then the caution came out.
Last year was a very humbling experience. I don't want to ever go through that again.
