Michael John "Mike" Sweeneyis a former Major League Baseball first baseman. Sweeney played his first 13 seasons in the majors with the Kansas City Royals, first as a catcher and then at first base. Sweeney also played for the Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, and Philadelphia Phillies. On March 25, 2011, Sweeney retired from baseball. That was probably the most touching moment of silence I've stood through.
There would have been no repercussions back then. There was no testing like that. But I knew in my heart it was wrong, and I had my faith to get me through it.
He's got the stuff to go out and win 17, 18 games, ... He's a lefty with a fastball 95-97, a 12-to-6 curve and a good change.
He's a cross between Tom Seaver and Jeff Spicoli, ... Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
This late in the year, ... we put the emphasis on not quitting and definitely not packing our bags until that last out in Toronto.
If we can get this guy's brain to work with his body, he'll be special for a long time.

Because of him, I've been able to do some really awesome things in the community. I try to do things that will put a smile on God's face. And whether it is through a church or a ministry or through RBI or Boys & Girls Clubs or a local elementary school, hopefully, I'll also put a smile on many kids' faces.
It's not like we're incapable of winning. We're just in a rut right now. It's a big rut, though.
