ahead count forced steven
Steven got ahead in the count and forced contact. Everything was good.
looks swung
He's better, but looks thinner. But he swung (the bat) well.
balls batter command evident fastball fear game gets ground pitches strike
It was evident in his first game that Darrell had no fear. He has the pitches that get you ground balls and strikeouts. His fastball command has improved. Now he is getting a strike on the first pitch most of the time. When he gets ahead, a batter is in trouble.
ahead hitter key puts strike third
His key is getting strike one. If he's able to get ahead of a hitter, it really puts the hitter on the defensive. When he doesn't get ahead, sometimes he has to come in with his fastball, which frankly, is his third pitch.
athletic liked outrageous three together
He is a three-pitch lefty. The two things I've always liked about him is he is athletic and he competes. You put those three things together and you get outrageous numbers.
catch freshman matt needs saying shook
Basically, Matt is going to catch on that I'm going out and saying the same thing. He is very talented, but a freshman and sometimes he just needs to be shook up.
fired games good guys national nice recognizes start understand
While it's nice to get some national recognition, all that really recognizes is that we got off to a good start our first 14 games and nothing more. Our guys understand that. They're not going to be all that fired up about it.
fastball late lead needed rich throw zone
We needed Rich to throw that fastball down in the zone better when we have a lead like that late in the game.
couple cruise edge last playing putting seven sustain
We had a little edge and were able to sustain it once we got the 5-1 lead. The way we've been playing the last couple weeks, we've been going into cruise control. But we were able to keep it going, putting up the seven runs.
couple effect either five four games mercy next pitching rule waste
We had the mercy rule in effect for nine-inning games the whole series. Five games in four days, if either team's up by 10, why waste pitching for the next couple innings.
execute plays
We didn't make the pitches. We didn't make the plays and we didn't execute at the end. We had one outburst and that was great, but we just didn't get it done.
adhere budget efforts finances resources sure
When it comes to the finances of the budget that I'm given, and if I don't adhere to it, we make sure we have the resources to fundraising efforts to make up for any overages that may occur.
greedy outcome pleased series wanting win
You go into every series wanting to win the series. But when you win the first two you get greedy and want to go for the sweep. We're pleased with the outcome as a whole.
effort field gloves good team throw worst
We just showed up and that was about it. This team isn't good enough to just throw their gloves on the field and win. It was our worst effort of the year.
