damage situation stay stocks until
I think we're in a situation where until the storm's damage can really be assessed, which could be weeks, stocks are going to stay under pressure.
bond bonds favorable less market negative rally report stocks
I think the bond market has already discounted a favorable report but not a negative report, ... If we see something less than 150,000, bonds will rally and stocks may, too.
consumer continues economy investors slight start stocks tech turn
As we start the new year, we could see tech get a slight boost, but then I think investors will turn to consumer stocks as the economy continues to recover.
action bottom clearly federal focus good interest looks matter needs people rates reserve searching stocks
I do think we're searching for a bottom on the Nasdaq and the action looks good so far. I see a lot of stocks doing well and people are going bottom fishing. Interest rates matter and clearly the Federal Reserve needs to focus on the Nasdaq.
companies earnings giving growth lifted people perception safe seems stocks trying
The Dow seems to be lifted because people are trying to resurrect the old growth stocks and giving them another try as a safe place to hide. The perception is that some of these companies are not currency- or energy-dependent enough for earnings to get hurt.
bad fully news stocks
The bad news could actually be fully discounted in the stocks themselves,
anxiety clearly continues conviction covering downside enthusiasm level reached restrained selective selling short stocks worst
It's a conviction on the part of some that a lot of the stocks have reached such a downside level that they are discounting the worst of all scenarios. The enthusiasm is clearly restrained because the selling and anxiety continues so we've got a little short covering and selective buying.
disappoint feeling paranoia phase stocks
Right now I think you're in the indiscriminate phase of selling. There's more of (a feeling of) anticipation and paranoia about the possibility that some of the Dow stocks could disappoint even further.
attach earnings eventually good peaceful people relative stocks strategy using
People have been using a rotational strategy -- but eventually you'll have a peaceful coexistence between the two because the 'old economy' stocks will have very good relative earnings that people can attach to,
higher issue stocks year
A lot of these stocks were much higher a year ago than they are today. Clearly, the bottom-fishing issue is important and real.
care cheap cyclical earnings group growth health rates sell stocks
This is an opportunity, ... You can find some health care stocks with price- earnings ratios, ironically, more cheap than they are in the cyclical area. The health care group of stocks that I like sell about 28 times earnings and have growth rates of 14 percent.
confidence fears judgment lack throes
There wasn't enough in my judgment to alleviate the fears that we are in the throes of a lack of confidence in the market.
depressed environment gave ibm looking notion people political remained saw sector stability tech using
There was a combination of things that really depressed it. One was Hewlett-Packard's shortfall and we had a sympathetic sell-off using the political environment as a backdrop. Ironically, IBM remained the stalwart and it probably gave the notion of stability to the tech sector and we saw some people looking for bargains.
earnings growth means rate risk
Any (profit) short-fall in that growth rate at 110 times earnings means there's some risk in these stocks.
