brought city fans great negativity past people proud smile team waited
People are really excited, and they should be. It's great for the city and great for the fans who have waited so many years. We've brought this little smile back to their faces. They feel proud about this team because there have been a lot of disappointing years in the past and a lot of negativity about us and this organization.
baseball care good people proved
If I think I'm good, I don't care about that stuff. If he's not with the Cubs, he'll be with someone else. He's already proved to a lot of people in baseball that he's a good manager. That's it, he's a good manager.
bench league might prepared
My bench has to be better prepared right now than they were for the American League because they might see more action.
early score seem time
The first inning set the tone. Every time we score early in the game, we seem like we play better baseball.
carry good kid team
I can see this kid having a pretty good year. That's why we got him. He could carry this team for a little while.
depends hope innings nine throws
It all depends on how El Duque throws. I hope he throws nine innings of shutout today. If something happens, we have to be prepared.
balance beat best bullpen pitching staff
They have so much balance because the pitching staff is great, the bullpen is one of the best in the league. Right now they can beat you so many different ways.
bullpen close experience guys knows mccarthy playoffs rookie six
(If) I put McCarthy there, I have six guys with no experience in the playoffs in the bullpen and now a rookie to close the game. El Duque knows about the playoffs.
amazing arm best came confidence doubt job keeping kid last matter mechanics pitches throwing time year
It's an amazing job this kid did over the last year and a half, ... This kid came in with a lot of problems, mechanics and keeping his pitches down. I always say Contreras got the best arm on my staff. There's not a doubt about it. It was a matter of time when he got more confidence and he was throwing more strikes.
deserves handle man obviously
I feel for him. I think this man deserves to be there; obviously he's not. Hopefully, Minnie will know how to handle this and keep working for baseball.
spring
I did it because we had a bullfight one day, and I didn't want to go to spring training. I got all the excuses.
advice averages cannot close confident continue early games hard law pick pull together ways winning year
No -- I could get some advice from him this year ... Advice isn't going to help. You cannot pick when things go right and things go wrong. You have to look at the law of averages where they were winning games early in the year, too. It's hard to continue to win in that many different ways and that many close games. I'm confident they'll get it together and pull it together.
field handle man teach
There's nothing better than to be around that man because he will teach you how to handle things on the field and off the field.
everybody fans nation sudden telling
All of a sudden everybody in the nation thought I was telling the fans to choke,
