artist civilization voice
Artists are the radical voice of civilization.
minorities may causes
Sometimes great injustices may be inflicted on the minority when the majority is in the pursuit of a great and just cause.
spiritual sorry pride
I found a special eagerness among the younger, and I am sorry to say, the more intelligent Negroes, to dismiss the spiritual as something beneath their new pride in their race. It is as if they wanted to put it behind them as something to be ashamed of...
justice humanity risk
The intolerance of the few, or the risk of it, carries the day against the wider humanity of the many.
actors diction knows
You know I am an actor, and I have medals for diction.
artist sacred talent
The talents of an artist, small or large, are God-given... They are a sacred trust.
party home leader
And at home in the United States we found continued and increased persecution, first of leaders of the Communist Party, and then of all honest anti-fascists.
ballet heritage steps
Americans will be amazed to find ho many of the modern dance steps are relics of the African heritage.
land class hysteria
In fact, because of this deep desire for peace, the ruling class leaders of this land, from 1945 on, stepped up the hysteria and propaganda to drive into American minds the false notion that danger threatened them from the East.
dream kids goal
My goal, my dream has already come true. Every kid's dream is to become a pro skater, you know? Not only have I become a pro skater, but to me personally, I ride for the best sponsors there are. That's even more than I ever expected... I didn't skate to please everyone else. I started skating because I love to skate. you gotta watch out because there will come a point where you'll forget that.
ocean ideas iron
I kind of like carbon taxes because we already know how to apply them. We already have apparatus in place. When we talk about these other solutions - like a billion tons of iron filings in the ocean or putting sunshades between us and the sun - they're huge. We have no idea if they will work. We have no idea what their nasty consequences might be. And it's unlikely we can do them anyway.
religious war population-problem
Solving the population problem is not going to solve the problems of racism... of sexism... of religious intolerance... of war... of gross economic inequality But if you don't solve the population problem, you're not going to solve any of those problems. Whatever problem you're interested in, you're not going to solve it unless you also solve the population problem. Whatever your cause, it's a lost cause without population control.
recovery people way
I see harm reduction as a way of engaging people as part of that path to recovery.
technology thinking years
Sometimes I think the Congress feels that if you only decided tomorrow to switch to wind power that in two years we'd be getting 80 percent of our electricity from wind power. It's nonsense. Normally it takes 20 to 30 years after a new technology is demonstrated and deployed before it powers even 15 or 20 percent of the grid. There's this long lag time, and we haven't even decided which directions to go.
