ball base good job less putting runner third
When we got a runner at third base and less than two outs, we didn't do a very good job of putting the ball in play.
ball five guy hurt last six struck third
What hurt was, we struck out for five of the last six outs, ... We didn't put the ball in play, and we had a guy on third base. And that's what hurt us.
enables fourth gives pitchers position strong third
What Mulder has done is really solidify their rotation. It enables them to put pitchers in a third and fourth position that they would like and it gives them a very strong rotation.
careful far hit straight third throw tricky wall
You don't want to make the first out (at third base), and that's the tricky part about our ballpark. When the ball's hit well off that left-field wall and if it comes straight down, you have to be careful because it's not that far of a throw to third.
felt good less might obviously pressure runner struggled third took
We've struggled so much in getting the runner in from third with less than two outs, so it obviously felt good doing that. I think it took the pressure off everybody. Might have led to the three-run homer, too.
aggressive change demeanor early maybe saw strike third
In the first part of spring, he was tentative. Then, I thought maybe his third start, he started going right after hitters. He started really being aggressive in the strike zone. Early in the spring, and it could be because he was just getting into shape, but he was middling too much. I saw a change in his demeanor and his results.
bat came guys hand hole morgan moved pitch position prefer swinging switched third turned
I moved him for Morgan. When he came back from the hand injury, I wanted him in a position where guys are going to have to pitch to him and he's going to get pitches. I switched him back because I didn't think he was swinging the bat that good. I prefer to have Lance in that third hole and as it turned out today, Morgan came through big.
certainly favor fresh game good lead matter mound roy score third until
I never feel comfortable until the game is over no matter what the score is, but you certainly feel good with Roy on the mound when you have a good lead and you have a fresh bullpen. You feel a lot of things are in your favor but we couldn't get that third strike.
few game innings later looked mound plenty roy
I thought we had plenty of runs, we had Roy on the mound and things looked pretty good. Then a few innings later things didn't look so good. It was a game you didn't want to let get away.
duplicate last
I thought they were going to be hard-pressed to duplicate what they did last year.
cardinals club department duplicate last offense pitching potent stronger weaker work year
I thought the Cardinals were going to be hard-pressed to duplicate what they did last year and they did duplicate it. We are a different club and we are probably not offensively as potent as we were last year. ... We are probably a little stronger in the pitching department and probably a little weaker in the offense department. I don't know how that's going to work out.
bullpen couple groove job rough roy tiring
I thought Roy started tiring in the sixth, ... but he did the job he had to do. And the bullpen was perfect. Roy has had a couple of rough outings lately, but he was back in the groove tonight.
focus good hard last pitchers ready tough
I thought our pitchers were very good today. It's a tough day, always the last day is a tough day. Everybody's ready to go, and it is hard to keep your focus going.
ball control good playing
I think we want to take it down to the wire. That's the way we've been playing it, so that's what we're going to do. We've just got to buckle down and play good ball now. We're still in control of our destiny.
