applying gap january playoff position
I don't want us to think by the end of January we've got to be in a playoff position or else. We've just got to keep shortening the gap and keep applying the pressure.
cheering goals guys joe position power provided richard scoring title trying win
The right guys are scoring for us. I'm cheering for Joe to win the scoring title and for Cheech to win the goals title, the Richard Trophy. Provided it doesn't take away from what we're trying to do to win, I'll do everything in my power to put them in the position to succeed.
according game ice manage ourselves playoffs position time
He's a horse. The more you play him, the better he gets. If we were in first place, it would be a different story, but we're not. I'll do everything I can to get ourselves in position to make the playoffs and, according to how the game goes, manage his ice time that way.
defend harder himself looking position shoot threat
Now what he's got to do is put himself in a position to shoot more. He's always looking to pass. You have to be a threat out there to shoot and pass, it makes it that much harder to defend against.
angles bad league learn looking net pass position puck rink scramble throw
A lot of times with the width of the rink you have bad angles ... you're always looking to pass the puck because you think somebody's going to be in a better position (to shoot). It's a better play in our league to throw it at the net and scramble things up. That's something he'll learn with a little more experience.
attention help joe opportunity player position seems step
He understands when you're a player in that position and we've got a player like Joe where all the attention seems to be on him, it's an opportunity for him to really step up and help the team.
momentum start
There's no momentum from two years ago. There's no carry-over. We had to start from scratch.
dominant game last player points puck side spread time top
He was on top of his game in all five. Last season, if you look, he had a lot of points but he had them in 3-4 games. This time it's been spread out and he's been a dominant player just about every shift. He's on the right side of the puck all the time.
exceeding far score
I thought he could score 40 this year, and now he's there. He's exceeding all my expectations as far as I'm concerned.
excited fault minutes needs patty playing point power
I wanted to get Patty a little more involved. I think he got excited to see he'd be on the point on the power play. He needs to be playing around 20 minutes a game. It was my fault he didn't play more the other night.
fearing man people though totally
People are fearing him now, and that's what you want to see with Joe. He's a man on a mission. . . . Even though he's not getting points, he's totally controlling the game.
none players prove respect
None of our players want to go out there and prove anything to Darryl. They have a lot of respect for him.
goals
He's going to be a 35-40 goals scorer.
buzz locker team
There's a buzz around our team in the locker room.
