Sylvester Croom, Jr.is an American football coach. He is currently the running backs coach for the NFL's Tennessee Titans. He was the head coach at Mississippi State University from 2004 to 2008, and the first African American head football coach in the Southeastern Conference. We've been playing better defense. We understand the scheme better, we're pretty solid in the front seven and we're tackling better.

We came out on the plus side on all of them, ... The defense did give up the touchdown in the red zone, and that's something we'll have to correct.

We've got to develop some mental toughness. It's why we don't have back-to-back good practices and why we can't win two games in a row. Right now, we're just not mentally tough enough. I'm disappointed because after a good day, we'll have a lackadaisical practice.

We are a football team, and we will play as a football team this year. I'm not going to make any predictions, but we go into the season this year feeling like we can play with anybody on our schedule and have a chance to win.

To play as bad as we did in the first half and only going in (down) 14-0, I felt like if our defense could come back and make plays, we had a chance.

We are talking about one of the premier teams in the country,

... We've got guys on our teams whose homes are gone, and everything they've got is gone, ... Most went at least 24 hours before they could even find out if their people were OK. To do what they did this week shows that we've got some great young people on this football team. I have so much respect for them. I don't know if I could have done it.

We'd go to the local church in that recruit's town or just stand on the street corner and talk to whoever passes by. Background checks may be fine for some, but I don't plan to hire somebody when we can go out and do the same work ourselves. I'd have a hard time anyway trusting anybody other than my coaches.

We want to close this thing out with these guys this weekend. This is still key. We still have top guys visiting.

We're still making mistakes and still not finishing in protections. We need to give Mike some time and he'll make plays.
