Terence
Terence
Publius Terentius Afer, better known in English as Terence, was a playwright of the Roman Republic, of North African descent. His comedies were performed for the first time around 170–160 BC. Terentius Lucanus, a Roman senator, brought Terence to Rome as a slave, educated him and later on, impressed by his abilities, freed him. Terence apparently died young, probably in Greece or on his way back to Rome. All of the six plays Terence wrote have survived...

rough-edges kind certainty
When I tested for Billy Budd, I had that kind of confidence that comes with the certainty that you're not going to get something. I was very rough around the edges.
politician wanted load
I've never wanted to become a politician, an interior decorator, I've never wanted to speculate and make a load of money. I just wanted this.
cities san-francisco magic
Vancouver is the most wonderful place. I put it up there with San Francisco and Sydney as a kind of magic sort of harbor city.
pasta going-out hanging-out
With Fellini, the fear dropped out of my work because it was such a happy experience... hanging out with Fellini, having pasta on the set with Fellini, and going out with Fellini!
cutting finals disappointed
I was very disappointed that so much of the work I did on The Haunted Mansion didn't arrive in the final cut.
attempt board carry control create decisions hands instead people plan planning putting regional service transit ultimately
Their (ARC) plan for a transit planning board or transit service board is another attempt to create this bureaucracy that will control transit instead of putting it in the hands of people who will ultimately have to carry out any decisions around regional transit.
earnings election future issue prices short
The election is exaggerating the short term, but it's not the issue. The issue is the deceleration of earnings and the contraction of multiples because prices got way out of whack with what future earnings were going to be.
forward looking market neutral stance
The market is still looking forward to discounting a neutral stance by the Fed.
gotten market matter people rotation saying stay
The market has gotten pretty oversold for the short-term but it's not a full-fledged meltdown. There's so much rotation going on with people saying they will stay in the market no matter what.
I thought we were going to be a lot better than this.
british-actor case elektra finding pull sure trouble
In the case of Elektra I really wasn't sure I could pull it off. There were so many intellectual leaps. My character, Stick, is blind, but he can see better than most people. So I had trouble kind of finding the logic.
certain commercial episodes good hbo hit network number sells time
It used to be that you had to do a certain number of episodes to hit syndication in order to try to keep a show on, because it's important to the network because it sells good commercial time. That's really not how HBO does things.
avoid tried viewer
As a writer, I've tried to avoid strong opinions about morality. You just want to present things as they are and let the viewer come to their own conclusion.
abhorrent amazed asks people somebody
Any abhorrent behavior is more interesting to me. I'm always amazed when somebody asks me, 'Why don't you write something about nice people?' Because nice people are boring, that's why.
