I thought they made big shots all game long .... Not just the early flurry, but just the continuation of making shots.
We've got some guys who can make big plays and every game it's someone different. Tonight it was Brent Phillips. Before Phillips' big run we were looking to run the clock out before halftime and his run was huge. After that, we went for it and got a big score going into the half.
I think it's going to be important to stay focused and use that adrenaline. It's the last game here but I'm going to treat it as any other game and play hard.
We thought our performance in that game (A&M) didn't help our cause. Certainly, we would've liked to have been selected. But you're talking about a team that no one thought would finish higher than ninth. I'm still very proud of what this team did this year.
We didn't play with the intensity needed and dug a hole. We have to put more pressure on and work through our system. Inconsistency was a problem. It's one game at a time and we've got a week to prepare.
We have to focus on the next game and not think about UAB or the tournament. We got them down there so they're going to be ready to fight us here. We have to get ready for UCF.
I don't think you can give any good team a steady diet of one defense. I think you have to change defenses and maybe slow the game down a little bit, or get teams off-balance a little bit. I think that's why you're seeing it.
Hats off to Devon Wills . We weren't even sure she was going to play, and then she responded with one of her best games of the year.
We talked to some of the guys after practice and they said it was nice release. Some things are more important than high school football, and our game pales in comparison.
We are at a crossroads right now and have the ability to be successful if we can continue to learn as a team and compete at game time.
The name of the game for us is 'heads in beds make the cash registers ring' and that's the reason why we're doing this. Polk County has a very strong tourism industry and we're always trying to further develop that industry.
The Westland game is very important for us to get our confidence back. We've been down a little bit, so getting a win would be a good morale-booster before we get into the tournament.
That's something we've learned as the season goes on, how to play smarter. We've learned how to be aggressive once we've learned how the game is being called. Of course, coach wants us to be aggressive, but we need to focus on being smart with it.
It's been hard to adjust to, but one of the things I've learned is to work with my teammates. The pace of the game has been a huge adjustment. I started to notice that in the open gyms before the season even started. I knew things were going to move a lot faster. Right now I'm getting a lot of good experience. That's going to carry over into the next couple of years.
