builds happy kid root team wants works
It builds confidence. Making a contribution to the team is important for a young player. I'm happy for him. He works hard. He wants to win. You root for a kid like that.
totally
The way things are going for us, ... you never feel like things are totally safe.
moving translate
He's a big guy, and there's a lot of moving parts. Hopefully, it can translate into something more consistent.
reason risk
Carlos is getting better, but there's no reason to risk anything here where it's so cool, not when he's come this far.
rushing starting
It's like starting all over. He's got to get back in shape. There's no use rushing him.
billy breaking building protect
I'm legit now, ... I won't be breaking Billy Martin's or Earl Weaver's records, but that's been building up for a long time. I don't want to get a reputation, but I want to protect my players.
assets backup certain early finish gives grind nice played swinging
He's a guy, overall, that gives us more assets in that spot. Miguel played well for us early in the year, and he can always go out there and grind and claw and do certain things. But he did come here to be backup guy. If Kaz can finish up strong, the way he's swinging right now, it would be nice for us.
feet keeping key
He was a little anxious. Sometimes a young guy, when you want to get your feet wet, you can be a little erratic. The key for me is keeping us in the game.
cautious felt foot innings loose starting took
He's been really banged up with his foot and his back's been stiffening up on him, ... With over 220-something innings this year, I just felt like we'd kind of be cautious with him and he was starting to stiffen up. Couldn't really get loose during the game, so I took him out.
react stuff
I don't ever react to stuff like that.
barometer base best bit couple emphasis games good guys knocks relax spring training turn whatever
It was good to see him relax a little bit and get going. Obviously, spring training is not the best barometer for how you base these guys but, you know, he was 0-for-20 or whatever and he had a couple knocks so that's why you don't put a lot of emphasis on games like this because you can turn it around in one day.
billy bottom came closed great guys job liked line nice picked picking pitchers scratch throw today
The thing I liked about today more than anything was we picked each other up. I really thought the pitchers did a nice job of picking guys up and we had to scratch for some runs, but the bottom line is that Billy came in and closed it on a great throw by Carlos.
adrenaline coming credit deserves feet fresh good keeping kid nice poise starts
Jake is getting his feet wet, not to get crazy. But it's nice that he's doing well.... That's why I like fresh blood, young blood. When the adrenaline starts flowing, sometimes good things can happen. The kid deserves a lot of credit coming up here and keeping his poise and making a contribution to what we're doing right now.
