Some live by the shore, some live on the water; some study the Vedas.
man shall
This (man) shall live and shall not die, we rouse this man (to life)! I make for him a remedy, O death, do not slay the man!
bad dislikes god label likes man wholly
God has not made any man wholly bad or wholly good; your likes and dislikes are inducing you to label them as such.
above anybody efforts fulfill naturally taking
Anybody taking the above resolutions will naturally make efforts to fulfill them.
bad good manner obviously paid people
If we are good to people then we are reciprocated in the same manner but if we are bad to them then we will most obviously be paid in the same coin.
company kings wealth
May we 'lead' in the company of kings and amass wealth by our efforts.
bind bow cow profitable rich streak yield
O dice, yield play, profitable as a cow that is rich in milk! Bind me to a streak of gain, as the bow (is bound) with the string!
abstain pave success
One should not only abstain from 'sinful-deeds' but also from 'sinful- speech' and 'sinful-thought'. By doing so we pave our way to success and peace.
forgive lord please save seeks servant unite
O Lord God, You are the One and Only Giver; You forgive us, and unite us with Yourself. Servant Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary; if it is Your Will, please save him!
oppose preach protect
Do not kill us! preach us! protect us and do not become angry! May we never oppose you!
immovable mind move rare subdue
The mind is uncontrollable; how rare are those who subdue it. Those who move the immovable become pure.
gain happy listening path senses strength taken talks wishes
If you too keep your senses and your wishes in check, you will gain by listening to these talks and by this visit; and I will be happy that you have taken to the path that will give you real strength and joy.
disease eagle far flown overcome sickness thy
The disease that racks and wastes thy limbs, and the sickness in thy heart, has flown as an eagle to a far distance, overcome by my charm.
ease happy
You must be uncomfortable when those around you are unhappy; when you ease their discomfort, you are making them happy and making yourself happy, isn't it?
