Chant the Lord's Name; O my friend, chant it. Hereafter, the path is terrifying and treacherous.
body directions door east four head main north openings possess private south west
Just like the four main directions (North, South, East and West) the body also possess four openings or doors- the East door is Mouth, the West door is Rectum, the North door is Head while the South door is Private part.
clever dark deep lift lord please seek tricks
Please be kind and compassionate, O Lord of my life; I am helpless, and I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Please, give me Your Hand, and lift me up, out of the deep dark pit. I have no clever tricks at all.
crossed servant terrifying united
By His Grace, servant Nanak has crossed over this terrifying world-ocean; I am united with my Beloved.
destroy proud
Destroy all those who are lustful, angry, greedy, enticed, proud and jealous.
guard hail protect reverence shall
They shall guard thee, they shall protect thee. Reverence be to them. Hail be to them!
meditate soul worlds
He established the many worlds and skies. The soul is illumined with His Light; no one can revoke His Blessing. Meditate, meditate in remembrance on God, and become fearless.
conduct duties good health high importance loved order perform
Our conduct should be such that we are loved by one and all..the high as well as the low. It also describes the importance of good health because in order to perform all our duties efficiently we need to be in good health.
empty fill gifts hands shall
But I tell you; Come to Me with empty hands. I shall fill your hands with gifts and Grace. If your hands are full, what am I to fill them with?
arise basically beggar birth born both bow doubt emperor equal equally leaving reality sleep
All are equal in birth and in death. Differences arise only during the interval. The Emperor and the beggar are both born naked; they sleep equally silently; they bow out without even leaving their new address. Then how can their reality be different? There can be no doubt on this score. All are basically the same.
crying ears eyes poor
My ears do not hear, and my eyes are not beautiful. I am in such pain; I am a poor cripple, crying at Your Door.
armies conquer shall sun wise
These wise armies of the gods, having the sun as their ensign, shall conquer our enemies! Hail!
earned fair forms highway means money various wealth
LAKSHMI or wealth accrues by fair means as well as foul; money is earned by gambling, by various forms of deceit; by highway robbery; by high and low; by all and sundry.
bestows bold delights gambler game hand heaps loves player proper skilled spare strong verily
Even the strong hand the bold player conquers, as the skilled gambler heaps up his winnings at the proper time. Upon him that loves the game (the god), and does not spare his money, (the game, the god) verily bestows the delights of wealth.
