behold gives good guy learn low mound next runs three
If there's one guy that should take a pitch, it should be (Mitre). But he's got a pretty good swing. Low and behold he (goes back out to the mound and) gives up three runs the next inning. Something we can learn from.
blood good safe tight
I think it's more, we're being safe than sorry. He was tight today. The good thing is there is no blood in there. It's just some tightness.
anxious gave good joe last model regular situations talk ton
I talk to Joe on a pretty regular basis. I talk to him about situations and advice. I'm anxious to see him. He's always been good to me as a player, as a coach. He gave me a ton of responsibilities last year. He's someone you can model yourself after, not only as a manager, but as a person.
deception downhill exactly good might people plane swings
People don't see the ball, they don't have good swings on him. I can't really tell you exactly why, but there's some deception to him. Some of it might be his height, some of it might be the downhill plane all the time, but there's deception to him and I really like it.
fairly good manager means talked together wants
It was fairly brief. He didn't want to do too much without (General Manager Larry) Beinfest there. We talked about getting together again. The idea that he wants to talk to me is a good sign. It means I still have a chance.
beat good last looking
He's a good looking young hitter. He showed that last year. We made some mistakes, and he beat us.
judgments third until week
I probably won't make any judgments until the third week in March.
bricks carry eyes father gave remember
I was the grunt. I used to carry the bricks and cement. I remember when my father gave me my first $100 bill. My eyes were huge.
choice early family happy hard hope issues player retire takes uniform
You don't want to see any player ever retire too early or have family issues that takes him away from the game. It's hard to retire. I hope if that's the choice that he made that he's happy with his decision. It's hard to take your uniform off.
situations tested youth
I'm going to be tested in a lot of different ways. Because of the youth we have, we're going to have a lot of situations that we go through as a club. We're going to be tested.
talented
He's a talented young man. You know what, he's going to make some mistakes.
dominant hard people pitch seem trend
Closers seem to be all over the place now. For a while the trend was to go with hard throwers, but if you have that one pitch that's a dominant pitch that can get people out, it's usually where you see the closers come from.
early push reason
It's early in the season, and there's no reason to push him. You don't want it to become chronic.
fortunate guys obviously progress robert
Pokey obviously has the experience. But you look at Hanley and Robert -- two up-and-coming shortstops that can play defensively right now. We'll see how they progress offensively now and during the season. We're pretty fortunate to have two guys like that.
