capable count guys looking pitch
They are looking for a pitch to drive, and I'm not going to take it away from them. We have some guys who aren't capable of working the count yet.
catcher guys hitters job position stay team
But you think about it, what does a catcher do? His job is to keep the other team from scoring, try to set up the bullpen, put your guys in a position to win. And most catchers have to do the little things as hitters to stay around.
belong guys job leagues sure understand
A big part of my job is making sure that these guys understand that they belong in the big leagues and they can do it.
asked guy run wall
He is the one guy who would try to run through a wall if I asked him and not ask any questions.
guys opportunity playing
Guys here will get a lot of playing time. We're going to have to make it work, that's all. It's an opportunity for somebody.
advantage bats days guys taking
Guys are just doing the little things, taking advantage. And our two-strike at bats the first two days have been tremendous.
besides bullpen center directors farm grow guys left maybe mean means press public reason second top
The bullpen guys are going to have to grow up just like the starters, just like our shortstop, second baseman, first baseman, right, center and left fielders probably. It's OK. Just because a guy is young doesn't mean he can't play. It just means that no one in the public besides maybe farm directors and the press know who they are. They can still play. There's a reason that they are top prospects.
battle fight guy guys hit jim played time
Jim is a guy who played a long time in the big leagues. Every day he had to battle to fight for every hit he got. I like that, guys who have battled through adversity.
expect gonna guys patience perfect understand wear
It's not gonna wear on my patience. I expect our guys to be perfect but I understand they're not gonna be.
experience goes guys hold hopefully late onto realizing start stay time victories
As time goes on, guys are going to start realizing that we can stay in games. Hopefully that will transpire into getting more and more experience with it so that late in games, we can hold onto those victories that we should win.
drive great guy hitters walk
Great hitters are able to do that. They're still going to drive in 120 runs. You're not going to walk a guy 700 times. That would be a record.
blown drive good guys hitters last lost supposed top tough
It is the way that it is supposed to be. Your top two hitters get on, and the 3-4-5 guys drive them in. We have lost some tough games, and we were pretty much blown out the last two days. It was good to see our guys come back and battle.
belong expect good guys job leagues mean next pitch step sure understand
A big part of my job is making sure these guys understand they belong in the big leagues and they can do it. That's going to be my message, that just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. I expect you to do it just like you did in Double-A and Triple-A. It's the next step up, but if you make your pitch it's a good pitch.
fortunate guys obviously progress robert
Pokey obviously has the experience. But you look at Hanley and Robert -- two up-and-coming shortstops that can play defensively right now. We'll see how they progress offensively now and during the season. We're pretty fortunate to have two guys like that.
