dealt guess hand happens next teams three winning
The winning teams I've been on, there's always been a clear-cut closer. I think that's important. But I guess we're going to play the hand we're dealt with and see what happens in the next three weeks.
eighth gets ground instead mean next pierre puts run tough tried walked walks
The walks in the eighth killed us. Pierre gets on, but his run doesn't mean anything. We walked the next two guys. That puts us in a tough situation. J.J. gets the ground ball. I thought we tried to do too much instead of just getting the one out. We tried to get two outs -- get one out.
along believe best instructor next obviously points progress six sure
It all points to how he progresses over the next six weeks. Obviously we want him to get his at-bats. We've said it all along -- we believe he is going to be in the lineup somewhere. We're just not sure where. But he's got the best instructor you can have. We'll see how much progress he makes over the next six weeks.
belong expect good guys job leagues mean next pitch step sure understand
A big part of my job is making sure these guys understand they belong in the big leagues and they can do it. That's going to be my message, that just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. I expect you to do it just like you did in Double-A and Triple-A. It's the next step up, but if you make your pitch it's a good pitch.
behold gives good guy learn low mound next runs three
If there's one guy that should take a pitch, it should be (Mitre). But he's got a pretty good swing. Low and behold he (goes back out to the mound and) gives up three runs the next inning. Something we can learn from.
bad feet guys head learn next resilient sit
I don't like to sit guys down after a bad day. It makes them feel like they're being punished. I told him to keep his head up, learn from it -- and set his feet the next time. He's a resilient kid.
daily lacks last might seen surprised teammates ways
I don't think Hanley lacks confidence. I think Hanley is not surprised that he made that play last night. Now, he might have surprised some of his teammates who haven't seen him play on a daily basis. But I don't think Hanley is surprised he made that play. He went a long ways over. I'm not surprised at what he does.
favorite team
That's my favorite part of the game. If the other team can't score, they can't win.
hit losses three winning
It's frustrating to be 1-4 because it could have been 4-1. And that's the frustrating part. It could have been 3-2, 2-3. Three of the losses you're one hit away from winning the game.
develops goes hopefully time
Hopefully someone develops into that as time goes on.
capable count guys looking pitch
They are looking for a pitch to drive, and I'm not going to take it away from them. We have some guys who aren't capable of working the count yet.
learn lose situations type
I don't like to lose but if you're going to lose, we had a chance. They'll learn a lot in those type of situations and they'll learn because they're going to get a lot of chances.
guarantee
I can guarantee you that Miguel Cabrera will be in the lineup. Other than that, there aren't a whole lot of guarantees.
above ball bit command happen pitches protect time underneath
He was above 30 pitches, and that's a lot of pitches for one inning in your first time out. I wanted to protect him. He was underneath the ball a little bit and he didn't have command of his fastball. That's going to happen in his first time out. I just didn't want to make too much of it, get him out and not get him hurt.
