ballgame
Take him out of the ballgame in this series, with what's been going on around here, that's not easy.
coming easy fastball felt free good hand jumping location threw
His location is not there, obviously, as his fastball was jumping all over. But the ball was coming out of his hand good, he threw free and easy and felt no pain, so that's a good thing.
grown guys trying
These guys haven't grown up together. So it's a little more trying to feel each other out and see what happens.
carries few hurt knew nice presence rodriguez searching
Rodriguez knew that if he made a mistake, he was going to get hurt. That was the presence we have been searching for. Having him there with a few other guys, there's a presence there that you have to make some pitches. It carries over and that was nice to see.
beaten guy needs step
Our outfield's been beaten up pretty bad, and Jacque's the one guy that needs to step up. And he's been doing that.
exactly light spring
He didn't exactly light it up in spring training. We didn't know where it was going.
five four guys ready throw
Guys aren't ready to throw every day. Guys aren't ready to throw four or five innings.
bases days few outfield playing proves run starts
Once he starts playing the outfield and proves to us that he can run the bases and play the outfield a few days in a row, then we'll see where he's at.
knows men pitches
He made some pitches after that (triple). That's what he can do very well. He knows how to pitch with men on base.
might slow
He might be a little slow on some stuff, going right and left, ... Anything routine, he's going to make.
gets good handled himself knows lazy sloppy talked
He gets a little lazy at times on the drills. But he knows what he's doing on the mound. He's a good fielder; he just gets a little sloppy at times. We talked to him about that. He's handled himself very well.
classy exactly falling hard hits needs roots
That's exactly what's going on. He's such a classy guy, and he roots so hard for everyone else. He needs to get some hits falling in for his own confidence. Not for us. I have confidence.
baseman proven veteran work
He's a proven veteran out there. He and (second baseman Luis) Castillo work very well out there together.
convince life trying uniform
He was restarting his life out there. We were trying to convince him to come back and put the uniform on again, and we were getting close.
