I know a lot of people on the field - players, coaches, managers - are glad that I'm gone.
I had no trouble communicating, the player's just didn't like what I had to say.
But I'm not going to walk Barry Bonds, like some teams do, in the first inning with nobody on.
I just didn't have anything to say, so I said nothing.
No, I don't think my presence will cause an increase in black attendance at Cleveland. People come out to see the players. When do you see a manager anyway? When he's out on the field arguing with the umpires, making a fool of himself and you know you can't win, and when he brings out the line-up card.
We just don't get the big, tough hit. We just don't do it. We don't get the fly ball.
We just don't seem to be able to put two games together. It doesn't seem like we have the ability to do it.
This young man is special. He was learning about catching with no hesitation on his part. He's really come a long way in a short period of time. And then to have to tell him this, it was very difficult. But we need pitching more than anything else right now.
This thing is not going to drag on, let me just put it that way.
To me that isn't arguing balls and strikes, is it?
Why put the burden on baseball to try and figure out where to go, and maybe put an asterisk? Just wipe the whole thing out.
We're not mathematically eliminated, ... But we're in a pretty good hole right now. . . . We still have a chance, and we still keep battling until somebody tells us, 'You're out of it.'
We're playing very poorly here. We've deserved to lose. We're not performing the way I feel the team is capable of performing.
We took a huge step backward when it looked like we would gain ground.
